Fun with Parallel lines

Ever have fits when you have taught and re-taught parallel line concepts and when you verify thier understanding....nothing. Well I came up with this idea and it seemed to help. When we are explaining parallel lines being cut by a transversal, we have certain angles that are either congruent or supplementary as you may already know. Well try this approach and see if it works for you.
Let the students know that when you work with parrallel lines, they need to remember F U Z.
Draw the parallel lines being cut by a transversal, and then draw the letter F in block form. Tell your students that when these lines form an F(with a little imagination) then the angles in the F are complementary and congruent.
Next show them that there are U's in the picture also, and the angles formed by this U are same-side interior angles and therefore supplementary.
Finally, the angles formed by the letter Z are alternate-interior angles and are also equal.
I hope that this will work for you. Should you have any questions, feel free to email me at:
